FAQ’s - Frequently asked questions about Tantra
Exploring & understanding Tantra – Your Questions Answered
Tantra Immersion with Kāmadevī | Soul Studio, Zug (Switzerland)
Tantra is a term that often sparks curiosity, fascination, and sometimes confusion. As we prepare to welcome you to our upcoming Tantra Immersion in Switzerland, we want to offer clarity and insight into what Tantra truly is — and what it isn't.
Whether you're completely new to the concept or already exploring its practices, this blog post answers some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Our intention is to create a safe, grounded, and heart-centered space for you to explore the depth and beauty of Tantra yoga, beyond the myths and misconceptions.
1. What is Tantra?
‘Tan’ means expansion while ‘tra’ means freedom making it a natural evolution of yoga which guides you into the art of being free from physical, mental and spiritual bondages through the fluidity of energy. When we expand our capacity to hold greater energy known in Sanskrit as ‘Shakti’, synchronistically we begin to merge with higher consciousness, ‘Shiva’.
Tantra is an ancient spiritual path that invites us to embrace the fullness of life - not by escaping the body or the world, but by entering it fully, with awareness and love.
It's a path of presence, devotion, and deep connection - where everything, from breath to movement to emotion, becomes part of the sacred. Far from being just a sexual practice (as it's often misunderstood), Tantra is about awakening to your true nature and living from the heart, with clarity, courage, and joy.
Embodiment is part of Tantra as it is an experiential science that moves through our body and situational, it is not just a concept, but as a living truth. Through movement, breathwork, ritual, and somatic inquiry, you’ll be guided to listen to your body’s wisdom, soften old patterns, and open to divine intelligence flowing through you.
It’s about reconnecting with your aliveness, your sensuality, your emotions, and your soul - all as doorways to awakening. This is a journey of intimacy with yourself and life - raw, real, and reverent.
While we are inherently limitless, the art of tantra guides us to cultivate and contain that boundless energy within the framework of our body, mind, and sensory temple.
The sense temple = soulfulness.
As we become familiar with the omnipresence within our physical existence, where we also encounter limitations, we learn to honor these boundaries and allow them to also serve as doorways to a greater perception. In doing so, we cultivate a palpable relationship with this vast Presence and energy, often referred to as life force or prāna.
The practice is to be, and by being we become more present. Which results in an energetic vibrancy. We access and commune with our inherent life force, and we feel it pulsating within all of life.
When we are not present, we quickly become aware of this non-present state.
We face our states, we inquire and we explore the terrain of reality but through the eye of consciousness.
We give space to consciousness (the infinite). Practically this looks like; prioritising time to rest in nature, having a meditative / yogic practice, rising in the morning and observing the shift from sleeping to waking states, embodiment / somatic practices which instil expansive sensation into the body, ethical foods and living.
2. Do I need any experience with Tantra or yoga to join this immersion?
Not at all. This Tantra immersion is open to all levels, including complete beginners. Whether you're new to Tantra or already on a path of embodiment and self-discovery, you’ll be gently guided in a safe and inclusive space. All that’s needed is curiosity and a willingness to explore.
3. Is this a sexual workshop?
No. While Tantra honors our sensuality, this workshop is not focused on sexuality or partner practices. Instead, we explore Tantra as a holistic, heart-centered path using tools like breath, meditation, movement, and sacred ritual. All practices are fully clothed and rooted in mutual respect and clear boundaries.
4. Do I need to come with a partner?
Absolutely not. Tantra starts with the relationship to yourself. While some workshops include optional partner exercises, these can be done with a fellow participant or solo. Whether you're single, partnered, or somewhere in between — you are warmly welcome.
